Becoming with Forest

‘Becoming with forest’ is a collaborative design research project on the questionnaire of sustainable forestry practices in Sweden and the importance of the forest ecosystems. Following this questionnaire, the project also aims to create awareness on the people of ‘Växjö’, to inform them about the unsustainable practices and remind them the importance of forest ecosystems for a livable future. The design research wraps itself up in the form of a guided walk practice for the forest lovers of Växjö to take place in a pre-planned route with planned activities to ensure the effectiveness of the experience. Besides the physical walk itself, this guided walk practice is also available in the form of an audio piece made possible for people who can not join the walk or wants to have a similar experience anywhere in the world.
The project took part at the exhibition ‘The Climate Emergency and Us’ at Galleri Linné, Linnaeus University between 15 November 2022 to 13 January 2023.

“What do you see when you look at a forest, is it wood or life? Wood is supposedly a sustainable material, but sustainable for whom? and more importantly, is it only a material? Life on earth is dependent on thriving ecosystems and forests harbor immensely diverse ecosystems. Living beings never exist on their own but become together, humans are not exceptional. With this project, we want to emphasize the vital agency of forests and criticize the normative and consumerist view on forestry, especially in Sweden. Therefore, we would like to invite you to join us for a walk to the forest, to become with the forest.” (exhibition text)
